Halloween Craft Sabbath Show! This Sunday, October Third!

We're closing in on our one year anniversary with Craft Sabbath! We'll always love this anniversary, too. Not only did we meet tons of cool and supportive local crafters, but it's the perfect lead-up to Halloween!

We're going to have a bunch of crafters showing off their spooky wares, and we have some new stuff, too! Frankenstein monsters, witches, zombies and a bunch of pumpkins will be gracing our table, and we'll have a jar of eyeballs, too!

Also, don't forget our Halloween special! If you order before October 15th, we can make a Grimmleighfied zombie out of whoever you want, whether it is you, your family, whomever, we'll do it for $30.00, which is 25% off our regular custom price! Send us an email to grimmleighsfiends@yahoo.com , and we'll get started for you!

Grimmleigh's Custom Hellboy, Step by Step Slidshow!

We've been talking about our Custom Grimmleighs a bit this week, and thought it would be fun to show a step-by-step slideshow of the painting process of a Grimmleigh, from blank canvas to finished Fiend!

WIP WoW Orc, Part 2!

Here is Metoc, just about finished. He has a few minor touch-ups, and a cape
to come. Then we evaluate! We'll be sending pics for approval to our client, and then seeing if anything else needs to be done before we call Metoc finished!

WIP WoW Orc; Things Are About to Get Awesome!

Melissia and her daughter have been picking up Grimmleighs for a few months now, and they wanted to get something for Dad, who plays a bit of World of Warcraft. Being as how Leigh NEVER lost most of a year rampaging about as an Orc Warrior, he pretended not to know what anyone was talking about.

For about 30 seconds. Leigh loves Orcs like Nicholas Cage likes scenery to chew on!

Metoc the Orc Death Knight is coming together nicely! Rachel drafted a whole new Grimmleigh's body design, what we now call the "Heroic" body! Here is a work in progress shot of Metoc's face... He's going to be Epic!

Itty Bitty Baby Squidleighs Now Available!

Our friend Candice ordered 20 of these adorable little guys for her baby shower, and we kind of fell in love with them. We have them available in our Etsy shop now, they are only $8.00 each, and you can select any of the colors shown above. They make great gifts, and brighten up any room!

NEW Grimmleighs in the Shop! 9-22-2010! And the Retirement of a Beloved Grimmleigh...

It seems like the last Craft Sabbath was just a few weeks ago (it was), but the next one is, uhhhhhh, NEXT WEEKEND? HOLY CRAP! And it's OUR favorite time of year! AAAAYYYYYEAAAH!!! We're not ready! We have a bunch of new Grimmleighs to get photographed over the next few days, and there is a whole slew of  great new Halloween stuff, too. Pumpinheaded monsters, zombies, and more will be gracing our table on October 3rd!

We are also announcing the retirement of Count Kevin, who has been attending shows with us for exactly one year now. He has brought a lot of smiles to a lot of faces, and we've decided that since he hasn't found a home yet, we're going to give him one last shot at placement before he joins the Loch Tess Monster and the Original Clyde Nye the Eye Guy on our shelf here at the lab. He might be getting a little "special treatment" for his last show, but regardless, stop by and wish the Old Boy well in his future endeavors!

Small update to the shop this week, as always, if you see something you like, head over to our Etsy shop. Not only do we have a ton of Grimmleighs dolls, we have some one of a kind trading card art pieces available, too.

Springleborb Squattie: He spent his youth as a rodeo clown, spinning about the bulls and distracting them from the cowboys they had just thrown off. Springleborb could make a bull angrier than anything by sticking out his tongue and cartwheeling away. Many cowboys owe their lives to Springleborb, but he holds a dark day in 2007 as a personal failure; He was distracting a bull from a particularly dizzy cow-poke, when the enraged bovine stamped off and trampled a busload of Boy Scouts. Disgraced, Springleborb can't bring himself to attend the rodeo again.

Figgle the Fish: Many years ago, Figgle the Fish had a successful business leading brain-damaged Salmon to their spawning beds, but industrial pollution and over fishing has put him out of business. He tried starting a business helping lost children find their parents at the grocery store, but he is easily distracted and kept making things worse. Eventually, he settled on a "Grease on Demand" service, where he will perch on the edge of a plate of fried food, and deliver the glistening morsel to his client's mouth, often times stopping to move the client's jaw up and down in a chewing motion. Needless to say, Figgle is looking for new work!

Hertle Squidleigh was a strong man at a circus, but had to quit when he strained his flibbertijibbit in a freak elephant lifting accident. Hertle is still  stronger than 10 incredibly strong nuns, so he has been lending himself out as a rock smasher and grocery bagger. He has been garnering incredible fame as of late, since he can actually smash rocks AND bag groceries at the same time, all without breaking eggs or smooshing toilet paper.

Tomorrow we will be posting one of our all time favorites, the Itty Bitty Squidleighs with Pacifiers!

More Customs...and Squidleigh Accessories!

Michelle teaches elementary school and was going with an underwater theme for her new classroom this year.  She asked us to make her a Grimmleigh Dolphin and here it is, in it's new habitat.

In other news....The weather is changing round these parts.  The leaves are turning, the temperatures are dropping and thoughts may be turning to the upcoming holidays....and of course the question of what your baby squidleigh will wear to holiday get-togethers and on the slopes comes to mind.....Molly's Answer?? Baby Squidleigh HATS!  Yep, our 10 year old whipped up these little numbers for our friend Kat's Baby Squidleigh Thelma.  (there is talk of there being more top hats, flappy cappies and maybe witch hats available @ the next Craft Sabbath!)
Tomorrow:  Hats for YOUR head

Grimmleighs ACEO Cards Now Available!

Remember those cool trading cards you used to get when you were a kid? A large part of what made LGK love monsters so much when he was a kid was the amazing trading cards that were being released in the early 1970's; You could find everything from dinosaurs attacking cities, fake advertising cards, monster cards, you name it!

There has been a recent movement towards creating artist original trading cards, with a lot of artists making one of a kind cards that will not be re-issued. LGK likes that idea! He has created several dozen of these ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) and we have them posted at our Etsy Shop. Each card is one of a kind, signed, and comes with a protective card sleeve. ACEO cards are a fun (and affordable) way to get your hands on original art! Here's a preview of what's to come!

Zoidberg!!!!!!!!!

As you know, we love a challenge!  Our good friend Jefferson presented us with one recently...he'd found a picture of a knitted Zoidberg hat online and wondered if I could whip one up for Futurama-Fan-Becca's birthday.
So I did.
Our version even has eyeballs that can "flip up" so you can see, and a mouth hole so you can enjoy your favorite libation.

With Halloween just "around the corner" we thought maybe YOU would like your own Zoidberg mask for an "instant costume" (just add labcoat)
So, we're posting it in the etsy shop!  Order by the 15th!!!  AND we'll have one or two available at the next Craft Sabbath (October 3rd)

Coming soon....Cthulhu Hat & Brain Cap!!

NEW Grimmleighs in the Shop! 9-16-2010! Squidleigh Invasion!

Whew! We've finally recovered from this last weekend! Two shows in two days pretty much left us worn out, sleepy, irrational, and devout fans of Mama's Family on TV Land. Now that we are feeling a little bit more like ourselves, we though it might be a good idea to freshen up the shop a little! If you like something you see below, just click the big Etsy banner on your left, you'll be transported through the magic of the Interwebs to a magical place full of hand-crafted awesomeness!

Jeverton Squidleigh loves purdy girls and Italian movies, and has spent most of his life building a shrine to Squidfia Loren out of empty KFC containers. Being as he also has a severely addictive personality, he has been eating a lot of chicke, which has caused his shrine to reach epic proportions, and was recently awarded it's own ZIP code by the Postmaster General of Ecuador.

"Pips" Squidleigh is a card dealer at the Atlantis Room Hotel, Casino and Auto Parts Emporium right off Highway 40, best reached by pick-up truck. "Pips" has earned world-wide renown for his ability to shuffle three racks of cards at a time, all the while mixing a perfect Manhattan and singing the theme to "Django" in German, English, and Italian. He has been offered a great many jobs by competing card-houses, but his eternal love of the fetching Fifi LaSquidleigh has kept him in one place. He hopes to make enough money to buy a little place in the south of France where he and Fifi can settle down.

Fifi LaSquidleigh is a showgirl at the Atlantis Room Hotel, Casino, and Darts Emporium, right outside of Armpit, Oregon, halfway down Highway 40. Fifi plays two shows nightly, dancing to classic R&B standards and singing all the Patsy Cline songs that come up in the review. She also serves cocktails to all the customers playing cards on the floor, where she has caught the eye of the charming "Pips" Squidleigh. She hopes to make enough money to buy a little truckstop where she and "Pips" can settle down, serving hash to long haul truckers and stranded Space Knights.

Bixby Squidleigh was a brilliant scientist, until a tragic accident involving irradiated sea-water and an old tissue box turned him into a love-struck moron. Now, whenever Bixby feels the early pangs of love, he slowly transforms into the Babbling Bix, a giant green gibbering mess of a fool who stammers nonsense about eternal love and happiness. This goes over well for about 45 seconds, before Bix starts to drool and weep from his uncontrollable emotions. Seeking to rid himself from his curse, Bixby has been wandering the country, seeking out odd-jobs... And someday, maybe a cure.

Halverson the Lone Squidleigh rides the range all day long, searching out the dirty varmint what killed his Pa, Ma, sisters, pet gopher, and best friend Bert. The problem is, all of these folk are still around, and have been trying to get Halverson to come home and settle down. Halverson has suffered a few blows to the head, and the longer it's been since he has seen a friend, the more he is convinced that some scoundrel did his loved one in. Being as how he has been wandering the countryside for years, he's pretty sure everyone he knows has been done in!

Chett Squidleigh has been on the run for several years from a deranged lunatic that has been following him, convinced that Chett is somehow responsible for the disappearance of all of his friends and family. At first, Chett tried to befriend the stranger, but he was never able to get through, and had to resort to smacking the stranger in the head with a piano to get away. Every few months the stranger catches up with Chett, and every few months Chett has to resort to violence to escape. The stranger's stalking of Chett has become more and more intense (not to mention more random and somewhat odd), so Chett has decided to zig-zag across the country, hoping to throw off his dogged pursuer!

Busy Weekend Ahead!!

It's full-steam-ahead here in the labs, with a very busy weekend!  We finished up a load of itty bitty squidleighs for Candice's baby shower (although it looks like her puppy has dibs on at least one of them!)  and now we're excited to be at the Avenue's Street Fair tomorrow.

This is a great annual event, put on by the Greater Avenues Council, that we've enjoyed as patrons for a couple of years.  It's on a different E/W street every year, and this year it will be up on 7th avenue from 9 am to 6 pm.  Lot's of live music (2 stages!) food vendors, NPO booths, kid's activities and local artists.  If you're in the area, we hope to see you!  (we'll be in between K & L street)

If you can't make it Saturday, think about swinging by the Downtown Library on Sunday from 1-5  for Craft Sabbath!

in which we feature two artists for the upcoming craft sabbath.....

Those of you who know us, know that we have a bit of an obsession with Day of the Dead art & Mexican culture (see our Catrina dolls!)
AND
being the earth-friendly-hipsters that we are, we of course, recycle all that we can....
soo....
as we gear up for this Sunday’s Craft Sabbath (in our new location @ the SL downtown library “Urban Room” THIS Sunday from 1-5)
we thought we’d feature two artists who are right up our alley, AND who’s work will be available this Sunday!

Utah artist Veronica Perez grew up drawing and creating art.  Much of what she creates was inspired by traditional folk arts of various cultures. When she is not painting, she is creating modern folk art such as jewelry, cards, magnets, keepsake boxes and candles.  We love that she uses her own artwork while also paying homage to Posada & Kahlo. (we especially love her girl-luchadore!)

Veronica is also an active volunteer in her community and enjoys mentoring youth about art.  She has helped create four community murals with the Northwest Mural Project & Mestizo Youth ArtWorks, a mural apprenticeship program designed to educate youth about mural-making and art as a viable career.  Her arts and crafts were part of Craft Lake City (where we were booth neighbors!)  and her artwork will be on display this fall at Sol Collective in Sacramento, California, the 337 Project’s Urban Gallery on September 18th at Neighborhood House AND we’re really excited that she will be at this month’s Craft Sabbath! (She also has an etsy shop )

Julie Penman has been a regular artist with our little collective for several months now.  Her Green Bling Designs are gorgeous pieces made from recycled or repurposed soda cans, beer cans, coffee bags, even sweetener wrappers.  She makes these treasures with creative touches like industrial findings,  fine filigree, hemp work, even unused medical tubing!

Julie says, “I LOVE finding treasures where others see nothing unusual!" It’s always a treat to see what new pieces she’s come up with, and the best part is figuring out WHAT they’re made out of.   Rachel has a pair of her earrings (beautiful blue & silver dangles made from, of all things, Bud Ice cans!) and they are definitely a conversation starter!!  Her jewelry can be found at the Your Planet Store in the SL airport, as well as www.greenblingdesigns.etsy.com

See you Sunday!

Grimmplays! Frankie Costume Card!

We thought of something pretty fun a couple of weeks back, and after some serious R&D, we are ready to roll out the first of our Grimmplays! Costume Cards! These silly little cards are perfect for your Grimmleighs to dress up as their favorite monsters and comic characters! Each Grimmplays! Costume Card will be available free for download for 24 hours here, then they will be available at our Etsy shop for only a dollar. Just print your Grimmplays! Costume Card on cardstock, cut out, and glue a thin band of card to the back to hold your mask in place... Each download includes two sizes of the card, so you can have a mask for almost any sized Grimmleigh!

Our first Grimmplays! Costume Card is Frankie! He's pretty cute for something made out of pieces and parts!
The Frankie Grimmplays! Costume Card is available FREE until 8pm Mountain time on 9-9-2010!

New Grimmleighs for 9-7-2010!

Brand new week, brand new Grimmleighs! Click the widget over there  to hop on over to the Etsy shop... These babies are piping hot!

First up is Mimi the Screaming Eggplant, who just realized that she is not only devoid of any nutritional value, but tastes great with marinara and Parmesan! Help prove to the world that Eggplant is a decoration, not a menu item!

Korthos is one of the Elder Wyrms of Ranga-Doom, the far off land of mysticism and fizzy novelty drinks!
Korthos has several passions, and only one of them involves the devouring of maidens. Most of the time, Korthos can be found lounging about in the forest, re-writing Mary Worth comics. After years of puzzling to her geriatric meddling, Korthos decided the comic would be far more tolerable with some creative literary license!

Super-Sad Cthulhu is the only Old One that feels feels any remorse. So much remorse, in fact, that none of the other Old Ones ever want to hang out at parties, despite Super-Sad Cthulhu's AMAZING singing voice! We're not saying that Super-Sad Cthulhu is any less of a sanity devouring fiend; Actually, she is far from it, and gobbles up sanity with relish! She just feels really, REALLY bad about it afterward!

Neal the Squattie Pinwheel escaped from the Circus after years of horrible abuse. He was a master tumbler, since he always looks the same no matter how he comes up! His dizzying displays had the sad tendency to make people nauseous, though, and Neal got tired of watching people turn green while watching him work. Neal finally busted loose, and was last seen tumbling down highway 40 like a big ole' pick-up truck!

Fan Fotos!!!!

One of our favorite things about this whole thing is keeping in touch with some of our "collectors" and seeing Grimmleigh's in their new habitats and with their new families.  They say a picture says a thousand words so here are a few of our favorite "fan fotos".

Ari's collection of squidleigh's is rivaled only by our own daughter's!  We love her (and her mom's) enthusiasm for Grimmleigh's, and this looks like our kind of tea party!

Annette has a little blue squidleigh that keeps her company on her work desk....but he was kinda lonely so....

she got him a girlfriend!  Here they are, presumably on their first date @ the aquarium?

Toni is an AMAZING photographer with a wonderful eye for color & composition.  She's also one of our biggest and best fans.  It was REALLY hard to pick just one or two of her pictures.  (If you want to see more, check out the fan photo's album on our facebook page)

At almost every show we do, at least one person asks "what do you do with them?"  (usually right after the same clueless individual asks us if they are hacky sacks...)  Leave it to Kat and Kim to find a new display option and purpose for Grimmleighs as rear-view-mirror ornaments!

Our current favorite "fan foto"?  The all-mighty-liberator-of-chickens and zombie-vanquisher Django...with his squidleigh, and a whole lotta toothpicks!!!

We LOVE getting pictures!  Send your pics of your Grimmleigh's in their new habitats to grimmleighsfiends@yahoo.com OR post them to our FaceBook Page!!!
